アメリカ人の好きな演説 [語学学習記録]

以下の3つの有名な演説は、アメリカ人の愛するものであるらしい。
一部を抜粋してみた。ユーチューブで全文を聞くこともできる。

ゲティスバーグ演説 1863年11月19日

But, in a larger sense, we can not dedicate -- we can not consecrate -- we can not hallow -- this ground. The brave men, living and dead, who struggled here, have consecrated it, far above our poor power to add or detract. The world will little note, nor long remember what we say here, but it can never forget what they did here. It is for us the living, rather, to be dedicated here to the unfinished work which they who fought here have thus far so nobly advanced.

It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us -- that from these honored dead we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion -- that we here highly resolve that these dead shall not have died in vain -- that this nation, under God, shall have a new birth of freedom -- and that government of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from the earth.

ジョン・F・ケネディ 大統領就任演説 1961年1月20日

In the long history of the world, only a few generations have been granted the role of defending freedom in its hour of maximum danger; I do not shrink from this responsibility ... I welcome it. I do not believe that any of us would exchange places with any other people or any other generation. The energy, the faith, the devotion which we bring to this endeavor will light our country and all who serve it ... and the glow from that fire can truly light the world.

And so, my fellow Americans ... ask not what your country can do for you ... ask what you can do for your country. My fellow citizens of the world ... ask not what America will do for you, but what together we can do for the Freedom of Man.
 
Finally, whether you are citizens of America or citizens of the world, ask of us here the same high standards of strength and sacrifice which we ask of you. With a good conscience our only sure reward, with history the final judge of our deeds; let us go forth to lead the land we love, asking His blessing and His help, but knowing that here on earth God's work must truly be our own.

キング牧師の演説 1963年8月28日

I have a dream that one day this nation will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed. "We hold these truths to be self-evident: that all men are created equal."

I have a dream that one day out in the red hills of Georgia the sons of former slaves and the sons of former slave owners will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.

I have a dream that one day even the state of Mississippi, a state sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.

I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin but by their character.

국민의, 국민에 의한, 국민을 위한 정부는 지상에서 멸망하지 않을 것이다.
使民有、民治、民享的政府,能长存于世。

国があなたに何をしてくれるかを問うのではなく、自分が国のために何ができるかを問いかけてほしい。
Ask not what your country can do for you, ask what you can do for your country.
조국이 여러분을 위해 무엇을 할 수 있을 것인지 묻지 말고, 여러분이 조국을 위해 무엇을 할 수 있는지 자문해 보십시오.
不要问你的国家能为你做些什么,而要问你能为你的国家做些什么。

私の4人の子供たちがいつか皮膚の色でなく、人格によって判断されるような国家に暮らすことを夢見ている。
I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by the color of their skin, but by the content of their character.
나는 꿈을 꿉니다. 제 네 명의 자식들이 이 나라에서 살아가는 동안, 이들이 피부색이 아니고 인격의 본질로 판단되어지는 어떤 날의 꿈입니다.
我有一个梦,我的四个孩子,有一天会生活在这样一个国家:不是根据他们的肤色而是根据他们的品德与性格来评判他们。
